It would be Facebook’s largest acquisition to date by far. “For years, we’ve focused on building the best experience for sharing photos with your friends and family,” Facebook’s chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg, wrote on his Facebook page. “Now, we’ll be able to work even more closely with the Instagram team to also offer the best experiences for sharing beautiful mobile photos with people based on your interests.” Instagram is a social network built around cellphone photos. It lets people add quirky filters and effects to their snapshots and share them with friends, who can “like” and comment on them. The service has been something of a rising star in the start-up world. Barely two years old, it has attracted close to 30 million users, even though it worked only on iPhones until last week, when it released an Android version of its app. Facebook has been interested in Instagram for some time. In early 2011, Mr. Zuckerberg reached out to Instagram to discuss possibly purchasing the company, but Mr. Systrom chose to keep it independent and focus on expanding it, two Facebook engineers who asked not to be named said in August. At the time Instagram had less than 7 million users.

The graffiti artist who took Facebook stock instead of cash for painting the walls of the social network’s first headquarters made a smart bet. The shares owned by the artist, David Choe, are expected to be worth upward of $200 million when Facebook stock trades publicly later this year. The social network company announced its $5 billion public offering Wednesday afternoon, which is expected to value the whole company at $75 billion to $100 billion. Ultimately, that offering will mint a lot of billionaires and millionaires. David Choe, is in line to make over $200 million USD for his stake in the company after choosing stock over monetary payment when he was hired by then Facebook President, Sean Parker, to paint their first offices in Palo Alto, CA back in 2005.

Facebook to Stream Michael Jackson Tribute Concert.

Facebook will offer a special Michael Jackson Tribute Concert to stream live. The event will be offered in conjunction with Milyoni and Ridgeline Entertainment, who announced that the Michael Forever Tribute Concert will be streamed live on the social network from the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. The promoters label it “the first live Pay-Per-View event available to Facebook’s global audience.” The concert will take place on October 8 starting at 10:00 AM PST (1:00 PM EST) for 40 Facebook credits ($3.99) prior to the Oct. 8 show, or for 50 Facebook credits ($4.99) on the day of the event.
